Walking With the Giants: Why I Honor My Ancestors (and How You Can Too)

We often think of ourselves as solitary islands, making our way through the world by our own strength. But the truth is much more profound: we are the tip of a spear that has been flying for thousands of years. We carry their DNA, their resilience, and their unfulfilled dreams in our very marrow.

Honoring our ancestors isn’t just about looking backward; it’s about grounding ourselves so we can move forward with more power and clarity.

My Journey: From Names to Living Presence

For a long time, my ancestors were just names on a dusty family tree or faces in faded polaroids. But a few years ago, I realized that ignoring them was like trying to live in a house without knowing where the foundation was.

Now, my relationship with them is a daily conversation. I don’t just remember them; I work with them.

Working with their spirit has turned my “lonely” life into a team sport. I am never truly alone in a room. I am covered, I am guided, I am protected… I am surrounded.

How to Begin Your Own Connection

If you’re looking to build this bridge, you don’t need a complex ritual or a secret map. You just need intention.

1. Create a Dedicated Space

You don’t need a massive altar. A small shelf or a corner of a dresser will do.

2. Speak Their Names

There is a beautiful saying that we die twice: once when our breath leaves us, and again when the last person speaks our name. Keep them alive by sharing their stories even the messy ones. Acknowledging their humanity is the highest form of respect. Call out to them in times of need, happiness or despair. Share their recipes, with family and friends.

3. Offerings of Action

Ancestors don’t just want candles; they want to see you thrive.

4. Just Listen

Sit in silence at your space. Ask for guidance, then pay attention to your intuition, your dreams, and the “coincidences” that pop up in your week. They often communicate through the gut feelings we usually ignore. When in spaces you dont know what to do, call out to them and listen for a hint, feel for a nudge, look for a clue. You’re never alone.

A Blessed Path Forward

Building a relationship with those who came before you is a journey of a lifetime. It transforms your identity from a “me” into an “us.” It provides a sense of belonging that no modern convenience can match.

You are the result of the love, survival, and prayers of thousands. Why not get to know the people who rooted for you before you were even born?

“Our ancestors stand behind us, a mountain range of strength. When we lean back, they hold us up.”

Thank you so much for stopping by my corner of the digital world. It means a lot to share this personal part of my life with you. I hope you find the strength of your lineage today. You are always welcome back here I look forward to seeing you in the next post!

Xo,
